Helen Doron ESL/EFL Internet Radio Celebrates 2 Years Broadcasting to Teens

HDRadio-2 yearCelebrating its two-year anniversary, the only online English as a Foreign Language (EFL) radio station is rapidly increasing its global fan base of students seeking to improve their English.

Built on Helen Doron English’s successes over the past 30 years, Helen Doron Radio for young people was launched August 20, 2013. The 24/7 programming is targeted at helping young people all over the world improve their English through: music, stories, quizzes, contests, several types of entertaining news, special guest interviews on various topics, targeted country weeks where the students interview each other about their likes and lives, and more. All content is specifically geared towards youths, attracting listeners from over 130 countries. In the past year alone, there has been a 150% increase in people listening on a regular basis and participating in the diverse, interactive broadcasting.

In celebration of the two-year celebration, the diverse radio team, including CEO and Founder of Helen Doron English, Helen Doron, participated in a special birthday show broadcast live to listeners throughout the world, many of whom sent birthday greetings through the website chat and email, as well as recorded messages which were played on the broadcast.

The free app, available for download through both Google Play and App Store, has made the unique radio station accessible throughout the world for those who understand that a good command of English is an essential tool in today‘s global village.

According to Richard Freedman, Helen Doron Radio’s Manager and Broadcaster, “The live shows are different every day, and feature team members with an assortment of native-English accents, but what they have in common is that they are all built around topics that affect our listeners’ lives— all presented in easy English. The feedback I get from listeners through the chat on the website and App is exciting: they answer the quiz questions and make song requests which are played straight away. They also ask us questions about Helen Doron Radio and Helen Doron programmes in general.”

Marilyn Glazier, Radio Marketing Manager and Broadcaster added, “Helen Doron Radio was created to fill a need for a ‘cool’ EFL (English as a Foreign Language) radio station that appeals to youth and motivates them to improve their English skills. The station is very interactive and the country weeks, where teens get a chance to talk about their cultures and lifestyles, is an especially popular feature. Listeners love the music and all of the broadcasters are fun and stimulating. There is always something exciting going on, and difficult words are explained, so ESL (English as a Second Language) students have no trouble understanding. We have found the right balance between music and content for this market, and the increasing listener numbers show we were right to produce this unique learning tool.”

Helen Doron Radio broadcasts online 24 hours a day, 7 days week with a live show dedicated to teenagers from around the world Sunday to Thursday from 15:00 – 18:00 Central European Time, with repeat shows to allow those listening daily from Asia and South America to tune-in, as well. Additionally, there is a Classic Rock show Sundays from 21:00-22:00 CET, a Classical Music programme Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00-10:00 CET and a show featuring Love Songs 22:00-00:00 CET.
